Guide: A Checklist Before You Go Vote on Tuesday

As Election Day draws near, it can be helpful to refresh your memory on how to vote, where to go, and what to bring, as well as what your rights are if someone tries to suppress your vote. That’s why we’ve put together a checklist to make sure all Alabamians have what they need to cast their ballot and have it count. Share it with your friends and family so they can be prepared on Tuesday, too!

Are you registered to vote?

The deadline to register for new Alabama voters has passed for the 2022 midterm elections. To check if you are currently registered, go to the Alabama Secretary of State website and enter your name and date of birth.

Do you know what to bring?

You must have a valid photo ID that is on the list of accepted identification. A few common examples include a driver’s license from any state, a US passport, an Alabama photo ID or non-driver ID, or a military ID. For a full list of accepted photo IDs, visit the Secretary of State’s Alabama Photo Voter ID Guide.

You can also obtain a free Alabama photo voter ID card at the Secretary of State’s office at 600 Dexter Avenue in Montgomery or at any Board of Registrar office in your county.

Do you know where to go?

Polling places may change unexpectedly or be different than the last place you voted if it was a municipal election. It’s always best to verify your polling location before you go, and check that you know how to get there and have transportation. Go to the Alabama Secretary of State website and enter your address.

Do you know what your ballot will look like?

Find a sample ballot before you go so you can familiarize yourself with the candidates you can choose from, as well as the amendments that you can vote on. Go to the Alabama Secretary of State website and select your county.
