Extended Collector’s Edition Lyric Book

See the lyrics and artwork behind the Caregiver Road Trip album in this newly released, downloadable Lyric Book.

A product of the collaboration between the Shake the Field artists collective and featured artist Felt Five Thompson, this album tells the story of a band of friends based in Alabama who take a break from their service-oriented jobs to travel around the state together.

Their trip takes unexpected twists and they find themselves confronting threats to the very freedom of their communities. Will they overcome the challenges? At what cost? Will they make it home? The songs here reflect their responses to what they see and feel during their journey. View the Lyric Book now, and listen to the CRT album.

A Tribute to Power on the Line

To close out this month’s newsletter, we’d like to share some inspirational words written about the Power on the Line movement. In September 2022, we joined 5th and 6th grade students at Jubilee School to talk about voting rights and what’s at stake in the Milligan v. Merrill case. After our visit, the students wrote this poem.

Power on the Line
fighting for the souls of Black folk

Power on the Line
their movement
a boulder you cannot break
their words stronger than diamonds

an unconditional light
digging deeper into truth
their statements spreading like wild fire
giving the people their inner fire
awakening their souls

electricity flowing
like power on the line.
