Vigils for Death Penalty Victims

The death penalty is a barbaric and violent act by the state that needs to end, but until it does, this month may see the most executions in a single month since 2015 according to Death Penalty Action.

Tonight at 5pm CT, there will be a virtual vigil for Tracy Beatty in Texas, who is scheduled for execution at 6pm CT. Register here to attend, and read more about his case at the Action Network petition for his stay.

Another vigil for Alabamian Kenneth Smith will be held in Birmingham next week when his execution is scheduled on November 17, even though a federal appeals court wrote in 2021 that “If Smith’s trial had occurred today, he would not be eligible for execution.” Sign the petition for a stay, and join the vigil on the 17th from 11:30am to 1pm at the intersection of Arrington & Woods N, by the county courthouse.
